JESUS COMING BACK

JESUS COMING BACK

Jesus Coming in the clouds [2nd coming]

“…Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven”.

Acts 1:11

After being preserved in Christ at age 27, I began reading the bible for my first time. In regards to end times, I noticed the tribulation period, the 7 trumpets and Jesus will come to Earth a second time (to name a few observations). From what I have learned, I am going to share some bible verses about Jesus coming back (His second coming) with you. We will read scripture to learn about His second coming, then see if we are really ready for when this happens.

Jesus coming back

Bible Verses about Jesus Coming Back [2nd coming]

Read Matthew 24:29-31, 42-44 and 1 Thessalonians 4:16-5:2

Matthew 24:29-31, 42-44 and I Thessalonians 4:16-5:2 each mention Jesus being in the clouds, the sound of a trumpet just before gathering people, and compare Jesus’ coming to a thief breaking into a house.

  1. When does Matthew 24:29 say Jesus will return?

  2. Are there any verses in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-5:2 that say when Jesus will return?

Bible verse about being Ready for the Second Coming

I believe 2 Corinthians 13:5 can be used in regards to being ready for Jesus’ 2nd coming. “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.”
Read 1 Thessalonians 5:5-11 & Revelation 3:3 and then use the questions below to examine yourself.

Do you really make a conscious effort to be ready for Jesus’ 2nd coming? Do you live like you know Jesus will return? Can friends, family, coworkers and other Christians see that you are focused on Jesus?

Are you living in the light or living in darkness? Are you making exceptions to sin a little bit or are your choices the exception to what people around you are doing? Do you get drunk or do you stay sober? Have you truly put on the breastplate of faith and love? Are you currently holding any grudges or gossiping about your church or any fellow believers?  Does your hope of salvation trump all hopes of worldly gain?  Are you comforting your fellow believers that are facing trials? Are you comforting fellow believers that seem to have everything going great? Do you enjoy the ways of the world so much that you are caught up in sin?  Repent Jesus is coming soon!

Conclusion

Matthew 24:29-31, 42-44 and 1Thessalonians 4:16-5:2 each describe a time when Jesus will return.  Each set of verses mentions clouds, the sound of a trumpet just before gathering people, and compares Jesus coming to a thief breaking into a house.  I don’t personally see where either set of verses mentions Jesus coming before the tribulation. However, Matthew 24:29 does say “Immediately after the tribulation of those days”. I think both sets of verses are describing the same exact future event.

Knowing Jesus will return should affect how you live each day. The scriptures tell us to be ready for Jesus’ return several times. Scripture tells us no one knows the day or hour of Christ’s return intending for us to live everyday like Christ may return.  Living like you are ready for the return of Christ is more important than knowing when He will return. Revelation 22:20 gives an example of praying for the Return of Jesus. So why not do the same thing ourselves?
