THE LAMP OF THE BODY

THE LAMP OF THE BODY

The bible mentions lamps many times, and it talks about the importance and purpose of them. Did you know that God compares a part of our body to a lamp? We will specifically look at Matthew and Luke to see what the lamp of the body is. In these two books you will see that OUR lamps are personal to us, and important in our everyday life.

WHAT IS A LAMP?

A lamp shines light. The light that the lamp gives off lets you see what’s all around you.

WHY IS A LAMP IMPORTANT?

A lamp is important because it’s light reveals the good, and it reveals the bad. In this case, we are talking about our personal lamp. So, whether your lamp is shining bright or running dim it’s important to remember that YOU are not the only one that see’s it.

SCRIPTURE
LUKE 11:33-36 NKJV

“No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light. The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness. Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light.”

HOW DO WE USE OUR LAMPS?

From the scripture reading we know that our lamps are actually our eyes. So, how do we use our eyes so that our body is full of light? What our eyes focus on effects us tremendously. If we use our eyes focus on good things, we are being filled with light. On the flip side of that, if we use our eyes focus on the bad we will be filled with darkness. We need to remember this the next time we are picking out a movie, searching the internet, or just taking a walk. What we put into our bodies is going to either create light or darkness, lets choose light!
