7 Ways to Keep Christmas all Year Long

7 Ways to Keep Christmas all Year Long

Traditions are important, especially around Christmas time. Our traditions keep us focused on what’s important to us. Therefore we are looking at Christmas traditions we can start doing, and keep doing to keep the Christmas spirit all year long.

Turning Christmas traditions into everyday practices.

1. ADVENT

  • Christmas Tradition: We use calendars, and candles, along with other traditions to count down to the celebration of Christ’s birth, which was his 1st coming.
  • Everyday Life: Look forward to the second coming of Christ by Picking a day and time each week to read a verse about His second coming.
  • John 2:28

2. NATIVITY SCENES

  • Christmas Tradition: Set up pictures and replicas (living and molded) of our perception of where Christ was born.
  • Everyday Life: Surround yourself with things that remind you of Christ. This could be music (see #5), pictures of nature, scripture verses, cross, the Bible etc.
  • Deuteronomy 6:6-9

3. CHRISTMAS TREE

  • Christmas Tradition: We set up a tree to represent eternal life. Green is the color of eternal life and the needles point to Heaven, according to tradition.
  • Everyday Life: It’s not practical to have a real Christmas tree in our house all year long, but we can surround ourselves with nature. Take a walk, plant some trees, or have some houseplants. See and enjoy all that God has created.
  • Genesis 1:11-13

4. CANDLELIGHT

  • Christmas Tradition: Represents the light of Christ.
  • Everyday Life: We can light candles all year long to remind us that Christ is the light of the world.  More importantly, be someone that Christ’s light can shine through.
  • Matthew 5:16

5. CHRISTMAS CAROLS

  • Christmas Tradition: Singing songs that remind us Jesus was born for us.
  • Everyday Life: We can sing songs to God and about God anytime and any day of the week.  We could even sing songs about Jesus birth.
  • Psalm 104:33

6. CHRISTMAS GIFTS

  • Christmas Tradition: Giving gifts represents the gift of salvation that was given to us. God showed us how much He loves us by giving His Son’s life so we can live for eternity in Heaven. We show this love by giving gifts to others.
  • Everyday Life: Share your knowledge of the gift of salvation when God leads you. Show love to others, especially those in need, anytime of the year.
  • I Peter 3:15, Acts 20:35

7. CHRISTMAS CARDS

  • Christmas Tradition: Sending cards out to family and friends to share the joy of Christmas with them.
  • Everyday Life: Send appreciative/encouraging cards just because.
  • Hebrews 10:24-25

No matter what Christmas traditions you and your family do, or will start doing, it’s important to spend time together learning and living out scripture. We need to do this all year.

Praying that everyone who reads this has a year filled with seeing the Joy that can only come from the One True God.
