Most of us know something about the birth of Jesus. Today we will highlight some facts about the birth of Jesus, some you may know, some you may be hearing for the first time. Either way, it’s important to our faith to understand Jesus’ humble beginning.
Birth of Jesus
Below are facts on the birth of Jesus. Read the verse, read the fact, and add any thoughts you may have about the verse.
- Isaiah 7:14 This event, a virgin giving birth to a Son, was prophesied in the Old Testament.
- Luke 1:26-33, Matthew 1:20-21 An angel told Mary and Joseph separately that she would become pregnant, by the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Matthew 1:18 Mary was pregnant after being betrothed to Joseph, but before they had been together (Which didn’t happen until after she had Jesus – no sin was involved in the conception of Jesus).
- Luke 1:31, Matthew 1:21 The angel told Mary and Joseph separately what to name the child.
- Matthew 1:19-25 Joseph THOUGHT about divorcing Mary, but after the angel talked to him, he decided to follow God’s plan instead of his own.
- Luke 2:4-5 Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethlehem while she was VERY pregnant. (It was roughly around 90 miles, and maybe a 5day journey)
- Luke 2:6-7 There was no place for them to stay (they were traveling there because of a census, so there was probably many of people traveling to Bethlehem)
- Luke 2:7 After Mary gave birth to Jesus, she laid Him in a manger. (A manger is feeding trough for animals. A manger is NOT a barn, it’s what the animals ate out of.)
- Luke 2:8-20 An angel appeared to some shepherds, telling them about Jesus’ birth and they came to see Him while he was still in the manager. (The wise men came to see Jesus, but it wasn’t till later on. Matthew 2:7-11)
- Matthew 1:21 Jesus had a purpose for coming to this earth in human form.

Significance of Jesus’ birth
Below are facts on the significance of birth of Jesus. Read the verse, read the fact, and add any thoughts you may have.
- Matthew 1:21 “He will save His people from their sins.”
- Jesus was born to save us from our sins, so we can live for eternity with God and all believers, in Heaven (not hell with Satan and his followers).
- Matthew 1:23 “Virgin shall be with child, bear a son, they shall call His name Immanuel”, translated “God with us.”
- Jesus was born (sinless) and stayed that way. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit (Not through lust and human desires). He was born without sin, still being God, and among His people, so He could save His people. This is why He is called Immanuel “God with us”.
- Mark 1:8 “But He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
- Jesus was born in this world, sinless, perfect, and still God so that He could save His people. He did this by His death, and He gave us a promise of a helper, the Holy Spirit.
