WHAT DOES CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP LOOK LIKE?

Have you wondered what does Christian Fellowship look like? I’m sure you’ve heard that it’s important, because God calls us to fellowship with other believers, but what does Christian Fellowship look like? In this blog post you will see biblical examples of christian’s fellowshipping, along with a personal example of my own.

If you want to read about the types and meaning of Christian Fellowship, along with scripture references click here. (Make sure you come back and finish reading this post on what Christian Fellowship looks like).

WHAT IS CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP:

Christian Fellowship is the gathering, either in spirit or in person, of true believers of Christ, with Jesus Christ being the center of that gathering.

If you have found salvation through Jesus Christ, then we are one body, fellowshipping with Christ at the same time! This should bring encouragement knowing that you are not alone, even when it seems like you are. (I Corinthians 1:9, 12;12-14)

WHAT DOES CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP LOOK LIKE?

IN PERSON

Based off of Acts 2:40-47 we see multiple ways of fellowshipping with one another face to face:

  • Breaking of Bread – Communion
  • Prayer
  • Praising God together

There are many other ways to fellowship with one another. As long as God is the center of your gathering you have true Christian Fellowship. Take God away, then you only have fellowship, not Christian Fellowship.

More examples from scripture:

  • The Last Supper (Matthew 26:26-27)
  • Singing a Hymn (Matthew 26:30)
  • Teaching & Learning Scripture (Matthew 13:10-17)

IN SPIRIT

I am only giving one example from scripture on how to fellowship together when apart.

  • The Epistles
    • The Book of Romans through Jude

These are letters written from one believer to another. Even though they are not face to face, they are still fellowshipping with one another! Their communication was Christ centered, and because of that they we are able to fellowship through Him, with each other all the time.

MY PERSONAL EXAMPLE

My example combines both ways, in person and in spirit.
We have Christian friends who live roughly 4,581 miles away from us.
They live in Brazil and we live in the United States. Despite being thousands of miles apart we’re able to fellowship together face to face and in spirit!

  • IN PERSON
    • We video chat so we can pray together and encourage each other in person, in real time.
    • We use Facebook Messenger to write back and forth.
    • Mission Trips
      • They have come here on mission trips. (God willing we will go there too.)
  • IN SPIRIT
    • We chat through messenger.
    • We have watched them lead praise and worship at their church, through their Churches YouTube channel.

“For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many.” I Corinthians 12:12-14 (NKJV)

“Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.” Philippians 2:1-2 (NKJV)
