Laying up treasures in Heaven

Do you remember the saying “You can’t take it to Heaven”? The bible tells us that we should be laying up for ourselves treasures in Heaven. Despite all of our possessions on earth, there is one treasure you can take to heaven!
 Begin this lesson in prayer.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

AUTHORS ANSWERS:

How would you define the word treasure? Something that you consider very valuable, monetary or emotionally
What are some earthly treasures? Distractions that pull us, and keep us, away from God. This can be anything that we show extreme value for, house, cars, toys, status, having a certain number of friends, hoarding of money or things, and so much more.
What are some Heavenly treasures? Salvation! God will provide ALL we need in Heaven. He should be our TREASURE and we should live like it.
What makes something a “treasure” to one person and not another? If you don’t believe in God, do not have salvation in Him, your treasure is going to be on this earth. As a Christian, how we focus on our treasure may look different than other Christians because of how strong our faith is. As our faith grows, so will the focus on laying up treasures in Heaven.
Where does your treasure lie? My treasure lies in God. God is where I find the bulk of my joy. Even though I find joy in my possessions, I do not consider them my treasure because they are only temporary! The treasure that I find in God is permanent!
