CHRISTMAS ADVENT PART 1

On this first of five Christmas Advent Reflections, we will be reading about Mary’s interaction with the angel Gabriel. This is a marvelous and wonderful experience to start this advent season. As you read, put yourself in Mary’s shoes. Take in what she is being told, and see if you would react like she did.

Scripture: Luke 1:26-38

WHERE DOES THIS TAKE PLACE? Luke 1:26

Nazareth, a city in Galilee.

WHO IS HAVING A CONVERSATION? Luke 1:26-27

The angel Gabriel and Mary.

WHAT WAS MARY’S REACTION TO THE ANGEL GABRIELS GREETING? Luke 1:29-30

She was scared. The angel Gabriel told her not to be scared. An angel just appeared out of nowhere and knows exactly who she is, why would that be scary? Also, she was troubled and concerned at his greeting to her. It’s not every day that an angel appears and says that you are favored and blessed in the eyes of God!

WHAT IS THE SUBJECT OF THE CONVERSATION? Luke 1:31, 35

She will conceive a child by the Holy Spirit.

WHAT ARE THE NAMES OF WHO MARY WILL GIVE BIRTH TOO? Luke 1:31-32, 35

Jesus, Son of the Highest, Son of God.

WHAT IS THE PLAN LAID OUT BY GOD FOR HIM? Luke 1:32-33

He will be given the throne of David, reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will never end. This reign will be over God’s kingdom, and it will last forever!

MARY’S REACTION AFTER THE ANGEL GABRIEL SPEAKS? Luke 1:38

She is no longer scared, troubled or confused. She willing accepts the will of God for her life, and calls herself a maidservant of the Lord.
