ATTITUDE AND BLESSING

Attitude: MOURNING / WEEPING
Blessing: Comforted, and Laughing again
Scripture: Matthew 5:4, Luke 6:21

MEANING AND APPLICATION

Meaning:

Mourning is to be distressed or heartbroken because of losing something important. Weeping is another form of sadness that brings you to tears.

Life Experience:

EXAMPLE 1: Life always brings us some form of mourning, for example, the death of a loved one. We also can experience mourning from losing a pet to losing your house, these are just a few examples. When this happens, we go through a time of mourning, and its up to us recognize and see the comfort of God when He presents it to us. For instance, God’s comfort comes in all different forms depending on what we need at the time. It may be a hug from a friend or a listening ear when you need it most, or a memory at just the right time. Just remember, this comfort comes from God, and He promises us His blessing of comfort.

EXAMPLE 2: When we weep, we can feel like the happiness is being sucked out of us. Anything from getting a bad grade to feelings of regret, to losing a personal belonging that meant so much. When this happens God wants us to hold on to His promise, His promise that we will laugh again, joy and happiness will return! Until then, accept the comfort that He brings your way.

SCRIPTURE READING

Matthew 5:1-12

And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Luke 6:20-23

Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said:
“Blessed are you poor,
For yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now,
For you shall be filled.
Blessed are you who weep now,
For you shall laugh.

Blessed are you when men hate you,
And when they exclude you,
And revile you, and cast out your name as evil,
For the Son of Man’s sake.
Rejoice in that day and leap for joy!
For indeed your reward is great in heaven,
For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.
