WHAT IS CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP?
Christian fellowship is an important part of living out our faith. I apologize for this longer than usual blog post, but I feel there is too much to learn about Christian fellowship to just brush over it. Because of this, I have created this post so you can easily use it as a bible study.
The headings are the questions, and you can use the scripture below to help you find your answers.
- ACTS 2:40-47 (Questions 2, 4, 5)
- I CORINTHIANS 1:9 (questions 2,3), 10:20 (question 6)
- II CORINTHIANS 6:14 (question 6)
- GALATIANS 2:9 (questions 2, 4)
- EPHESIANS 5:11 (question 6)
- PHILIPPIANS 1:5-6 (questions 2, 3, 4), 2:1-4 (questions 2,4 ), 3:10-11 (question 3)
- I JOHN 1:3-7 (questions 2, 3, 6)
Question 1: What do you think Christian Fellowship is?
What does the bible say fellowship is? Is it merely christians getting together? Do we only have fellowship with one another when we talk about our christian faith, or is there more to fellowship than that?
There is more to Christian Fellowship than I thought. To explain, I always assumed that fellowship was only an action between Christians, but I am learning that this is not always the case. We, as Christians, have two kinds of fellowship.
Question 2: Is there more than one kind of Christian Fellowship?
Fellowship is when people with the same interest get together. We, as Christians, have two kinds of fellowship.
The first one is with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
The second is with one another.
As Christians we cannot have the second kind of fellowship without the first one. This is because of our common interest is an individual, and personal fellowship with Jesus Christ.
Question 3: Do you have Fellowship with Christ?
Christian fellowship is based on our personal fellowship with Jesus Christ (I Corinthians 1:9). We have this fellowship with Christ if we are walking in the light, like Jesus is walking in the light. When we walk in the light we are living our life according to the truth, following His word, and living for Him, all through faith. This is the only way that we have fellowship with Christ our Lord and Savior.
Through this fellowship with Christ, His blood (from when He died on the cross) cleanses us from all of our sins! If you don’t have fellowship with Jesus Christ you are walking in darkness.
God wants everyone to walk in the light, and this is the fellowship that we have to have in common if we want to have fellowship with one another.
If you don’t have this kind of fellowship and want it, pray to God telling Him that you want to fellowship with Him and His one and only Son who died on the cross for your sins, admitting that you are a sinner, and thanking Him for forgiving you so you can fellowship with Him now and forever. When we have this fellowship we have fellowship with other believers. We have fellowship with other believers without even realizing it.
Question 4: How do we have Christian Fellowship with other believers?
There are different aspects to fellowshipping with one another.
We automatically have fellowship with one another when we have that personal fellowship with Christ. We are all one body, and fellowshipping with Christ at the same time! That is a new thought for me. This should bring encouragement to each of us knowing that we are not alone even when it seems like it. We don’t have to be face to face, voice to voice, or even know each other to fellowship with one another!
But, the bible does have an example of actively fellowshipping together in ACTS 2:42, 46-47. It says that they agreed to fellowship daily, in the temple, and from house to house they had communion and ate food, gladly doing it from the heart, praising God, and they found favor in the eyes of the people.
Question 5: How can we uses Acts 2:42-47 as an example of true Christian Fellowshipping?
Their fellowship revolved around God, and not around personal gain or selfish desires. They also were in agreement, they were not in conflict with each other, and fellowshipped not in their own righteousness, but through faith in God. It was about worshipping God with other fellowshippers of Christ, especially new believers. Their fellowship stood out, it was different.
Question 6: What is NOT Christian Fellowship? (There is a difference between Fellowship and Christian Fellowship)
The bible also tells us that true fellowship only happens with other believers, not with demons, not with those walking in darkness or with the unfruitful works of darkness, and not with unbelievers. We can witness to those walking in darkness in hopes that we will someday be fellowshipping with them.
We hope you search our Free Bible Studies from Christian Fellowshipping for more encouraging ways to fellowship with God and other believes.
