On this third of five Christmas Advent reflections, we will be reading Luke 2:1-7. This is a summary of the birth of Jesus
You can complete this on your own, or you can read my thoughts under each question.
SCRIPTURE: LUKE 2:1-7
What is happening that is encouraging people to travel to their city, city of their ancestry? Vs 2:1-3
A census to count the population.
Where were Joseph and Mary traveling too? Vs 2:3-5
To Joseph’s home city – city of his ancestors – the City of David – Bethlehem.
What happened while they were there? Vs 2:6
Mary delivered Jesus – He was born in Bethlehem.
Where in Bethlehem did Mary most likely deliver the baby Jesus? Vs 2:7
The only available place! This place belonged to the animals, it’s where they ate, probably slept and took shelter. After He was born Mary wrap him in cloth (not clothes, cloth), and laid Him in the animals feeding troth. He was delivered in a very humbling location.
Where in the Old Testament does it talk about the location of Jesus’ birth?
Mich 5:2-4
Meditate on this section of verses.
God told them in the Old Testament that He was to be born in the City of David, in Bethlehem. God made that happen. He even gave us a point of reference, a time frame, that this happened in because of the census. God had a plan, and He did not keep it a secret! He told His people what was going to happen, and He made it happen!
