TITUS BIBLE STUDY
This Titus Bible Study will take you verse by verse through this small book of the bible. It is only 3 chapters long. This is also an application study. This means the goal is to apply scripture to your everyday life.
CHAPTER 1
Verse 1:
A. What makes Paul a servant of Jesus (reference Philippians 1:19-23)?
B. Based on your words and actions, what would people (co-workers, neighbors, friends,
family) say makes you a servant of Jesus?
C. How do you believe Jesus needs you to grow into a better servant for him?
Verse 2:
A. What hopes of this world have had more of an affect on your daily life than hopes of
eternal life?
B. Why does Paul make sure to point out God does not lie…don’t people already know this
(reference Numbers 23:19 and Hebrews 6:18)?
Verse 3:
A. How is God’s word being manifested or brought to light by you?
Verse 4:
A. How would you feel if you were greeted the same way Paul greeted Titus?
B. Should we or should we not send emails, messages, texts, etc. with encouraging
greetings similar to this verse
Verse 5:
A. What unfinished business, in Crete, did Paul commission Titus to finish?
Verse 6:
A. If you go through a divorce and then re-marry, are you still the husband of one wife
(reference Matthew 5:32)?
B. Give examples of disobedient and wild children (in God’s eyes).
Verse 7:
A. Who are the overseers at your church?
B. Why does God expect an overseer to NOT be overbearing, quick-tempered, getting
drunk, violent or pursue disobedient gain?
C. Which of the above character traits are you exempt from if you are not an overseer?
Verse 8:
A. Which is more hospitable…going out of your way to greet a visitor at your church or
waiting for them to talk to you first?
B. Give examples of being disciplined.
Verse 9:
A. Give an example of encouraging someone with sound doctrine.
B. Give an example of refuting someone who opposes sound doctrine
C. Give an example of a time when you have witnessed an overseer living out A or B above.
Verse 10:
A. Give examples of rebellious behavior within the circumcision group referred to in this
verse (reference Matthew 12:10-14).
B. Give examples of rebellious behaviors within “Christian” churches.
C. Do you know God’s word well enough to recognize rebellion, within the church, and
refute it?
Verse 11:
A. Give an example of “modern day” groups that are ruining households by things they
teach
B. Have you ever heard someone have a belief contrary to sound scripture, inside your
church, and did not discuss it with the person?
Verse 12-14:
A. We all know God does not want us to be liars or evil brutes…what is a lazy glutton?
B. What is the harm in not rebuking “sharply”?
C. If you heard someone from a bible-based church teaching Heaven can be obtained by
good works, how should that person be rebuked?
Verse 15-16:
A. Describe a corrupt mind.
B. What does it mean if you are a Christian and do not see all things as pure?
C. Explain why Pharisees and Sadducees are not pure.
D. How did Jesus handle the corrupt minded (Pharisees and Sadducees)?
CHAPTER 2
Verse 1-2:
A. What is sound doctrine?
B. Are footnotes, in your bible, considered sound doctrine?
C. What is the harm if older men do not have characteristics listed in these verses?
Verse 3-5:
A. What are older women supposed to be teaching younger women?
B. List recent examples of older women teaching younger women at your church (think of
examples outside of organized church functions).
C. Give examples of how older women can teach younger women to love their husbands.
Verse 6-8:
A. List examples of things a young Christian man might do that are not self-controlled.
B. What does God expect young men to do so that no one can say anything bad?
C. What could be the concern if someone legitimately has something bad to say about a
Christian or church member?
Verse 9-10:
A. Why does God want slaves to be taught to please their masters?
B. Based on verse 9, how can slaves make the teaching about God our savior attractive?
Verse 11-14:
A. Why would verse 10 be followed up with a verse about grace?
B. What worldly passions should a child of God say NO to that would make learning about
God unattractive?
C. What should Christians be waiting for and how could this be incorporated in our “every
day” walk with God?
D. Who benefits from purification?
Verse 15:
A. Who is qualified to encourage and rebuke?
CHAPTER 3
Verse 1-2:
A. Compare being subject to rulers and authorities to slaves being subject to masters in
chapter 2:9-10.
B. Give examples of humility. Here’s one to start with…sitting with the person that always
sits alone at your church.
Verse 3-8:
A. Is verse 3 describing saved or unsaved people?
B. Should we be telling unsaved people about Jesus or telling them we disagree with how
they are living?
C. How can verse 5 be used for witnessing to someone that is not saved?
D. How do you know you have been washed and renewed by the Holy Spirit (reference
Galatians 5:19-26)?
E. What gets you super excited in your life? Does being an heir to heaven or leading
someone else to eternal life in Heaven get you that excited?
F. In verse 8, what is supposed to be stressed and why?
Verse 9-11:
A. Give examples of foolish controversies or arguments Christians need to avoid. A couple
of examples to start with…when Jesus will return, complaining about major decisions
made at your church that can’t be changed.
B. Give examples of being divisive in church. Example to start with…a church member that
gets to sway most (or all decisions) made because he or she has a lot of money.
C. How can you avoid being influenced or manipulated by a divisive person? How can you
avoid being a divisive person? (reference Romans 16:17-18)
Verse 12-14:
A. What is an unproductive/unfruitful life in God’s eyes?
B. What do you think an unproductive/unfruitful life is in the world’s eyes?
Verse 15:
A. “Grace be with you”…what would these words mean to you if you received them in an
email, message, text, etc.
