WHO IS GOD THE FATHER?

WHO IS GOD THE FATHER?

Have you ever asked the question Who is God the Father? Honestly, I’ve never really thought about it. I have asked who is the Holy Spirit and what is His role, and wondered Who Jesus Christ really is. I have never asked who God the Father is. I’ve always assumed I knew, He’s the first part of the Trinity.

When I started reading verses focused on the Father, and His role in the Trinity, I was surprised. Instead of just telling you what some of His roles are, I am going to list verses for you to read, so you can see from scripture what He does, and who He is!

FATHER, GOD AND CREATOR

Here are some verses that tell us that the Father is God, and He is the creator.

Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.

JOHN 20:17

yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.

I CORINTHIANS 8:6

that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

ROMANS 15:6

God the Father made all things. He made all things through Jesus Christ. This may sound confusing at first, but its right there in verse 6. He is God, He’s the Father and creator.

FATHER, GIVER OF GOOD THINGS

In the three verses below we read that God the Father is the giver of good things.

Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

LUKE 12:32

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

MATTHEW 7:11

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

JOHN 14:26

God gives us many things. He is not limited to giving us the kingdom and the Holy Spirit! Like verse 11 says, He gives to those who ask.

FATHER, WHO PLANS

Our Father God has a plan. We may not understand or know the plan, but He has a plan!

So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?”

JOHN N8:11

And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

MARK 14:36

God’s plan for us isn’t always sunshine and roses. He had a plan for Jesus, and Jesus knew how painful it would be. Jesus asked if there was another way, but ultimately He wanted God the Father’s will to be done, no matter what.

FATHER, FORGIVER AND ANSWERER OF PRAYERS

The Father is a forgiver of sins, an He hears all of our prayers.

Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”

LUKE 23:34

Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.”

JOHN 11:41

He hears our prayers! He forgives us of our sins! It’s not complicated.

FATHER, COMFORTER AND MERCIFUL

A comforter and merciful God, is our Father in Heaven!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

II CORINTHIANS 1:3-4

God comforts us and shows us mercy, and then He wants us to do to the same to others who are in need of it.

CONCLUSION

After reading all of these verses, plus some, I truly picture God as a Father. He is a Father that LOVES His children with all of His being! He gives us comfort and shows us mercy, He forgives us and listens to us, and He gives us what we need, and that isn’t always what we want! This is what a Father does for His children. In addition, just like a father is the head of the family, the Father is head of the Trinity.
