*Every Monday for 8 weeks, I will post an attitudes that God will bless us for having. I will do this until we cover all 8 attitudes (links below)*

ATTITUDE AND BLESSING

AttitudeMERCIFUL
Blessing: You will obtain mercy
Scripture: Matthew 5:7

MEANING AND APPLICATION

Meaning: Merciful means to show or to have compassion for someone even if they don’t necessary deserve it.

Life Experience:
EXAMPLE 1: In life we may come across people that treat us badly, just because. We may never know why they do this, but we can show them mercy by putting it in the past if they are ever in need in of help. By helping them when they are in need we are being merciful. This is true because we are NOT holding them accountable for bad actions from the past. A perfect example is God showing us mercy by granting us salvation, despite all of our past sins.

EXAMPLE 2: As a parent I have had a lot of opportunities to be merciful. An example would be removing a punishment simple because, with no questions asked, and no expectations from your child. When we regularly show mercy to our children, family, friends or even strangers we obtain God’s blessing of mercy in return. We will be more aware when we do receive mercy because we will realize that we really don’t deserve it.

SCRIPTURE READING

Matthew 5:1-12

And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Luke 6:20-23

Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said:
“Blessed are you poor,
For yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now,
For you shall be filled.
Blessed are you who weep now,
For you shall laugh.
Blessed are you when men hate you,
And when they exclude you,
And revile you, and cast out your name as evil,
For the Son of Man’s sake.
Rejoice in that day and leap for joy!
For indeed your reward is great in heaven,
For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.
