This bible study was taken from my book(s): A Beginner’s Guide to the Christian Faith and Workbook for a Beginner’s Guide to the Christian Faith, section titled Praying to God (copyright 2026). For more information on these books, go to My Bookshelf.
Are you looking for ways to strengthen your prayer life? Do you ask the question, “How do I learn to pray? “Are you searching for different options to expand your prayer life? The focus for this bible study is to teach you an easy-to-remember prayer model.
Prayer Is
Prayer is your personal connection to God. Pray often, pray in private, pray with others, pray out loud, pray silently. Just pray. Your prayers can be quick, short, or long. There is no right or wrong way to pray as long as you are praying with a sincere heart! The more you pray, the more comfortable you will be.
Read Matthew 6:5-13 and Luke 11:1-4.
When we pray alone, with whom are we fellowshipping and why?
When praying, I often lose track of what to pray for, or I don’t know where to start. This prayer model is an easy way to remember how the Bible tells us to pray.

Praise:
Take the time to glorify our merciful and loving God! Praise God for who He is, what He has done, and what He can do!
EXAMPLE PRAYER: Heavenly Father, You alone are the One True God! You are a loving and merciful God that created everything on this earth and beyond.
List your praises, then put them into a prayer.
Repentance:
We need to repent of our sins! Even though God already knows all our sins, we still need to admit to Him what we have done wrong. We can’t conquer our sins unless we acknowledge we have sinned.
EXAMPLE PRAYER: I know I am a sinner, God. Please forgive me for the negative thoughts that I have had today towards other people and situations that have happened. I know I have sinned in ways that I am unaware of and help me to conquer my sins!
List areas in your life where you need to repent. Put those into a prayer.
Appreciation:
We show our appreciation to God by thanking Him for all He has done.
EXAMPLE PRAYER: Thank you, Heavenly Father, for forgiving me from day one. Thank You for Your answered prayers. I believe You know what is best, so I thank You for answering prayers according to Your will, not mine.
Appreciation is a must! Write out a prayer thanking God for what He has done, will do, and can do in the future. This can be answered prayers, to the simple things in life that you realize God has given you, to big life events.
Your Request:
Lastly, bring your request before God. Nothing is too big or too small for God! He wants to hear it all!
EXAMPLE PRAER: You, God, can do anything! Thank you for doing what You say is best, even if that means I don’t understand. Please help me to make the correct decisions. Help me to live this life according to Your will; help me to go to You with everything so I can have peace with whatever happens in this life. In Jesus Name I Pray, Amen.
Bring your request to God! Ask God for your needs, your family’s and friends’ needs, all of your requests that are in your heart, mind, and soul.
I pray that this bible study will help and encourage your prayer life. Our fellowship with God strengthens our relationship and our faith.
