GOD’S ANGELS AND THEIR DUTIES
WHAT IS AN ANGEL AND WHAT DO THEY DO?
As we are getting closer to Christmas and into the Christmas season, we tend to think about angels a little more. The other time we focus a lot on angels is when someone close to us dies. This is because we have a preconceived notion on God’s angel and their duties in this world. Let’s see how close our understanding of this topic aligns with scripture.
WHAT AN ANGEL IS NOT
- An angel is not to be praised and worshipped.
Only God is to be praised and worshipped. - An angel is not our loved ones, who have passed away, reincarnated.
God made us and He angels. We are separate from the angels, in this life and the next. - An angel is not a “guardian” angel.
God does not tell us anywhere in the bible that each angel is assigned a person to watch over. - An angel is not a cute baby with wings, or many of the other images we have made.
When angels appear to people in the bible they are magnificent, even scary to witness at times.
WHAT AN ANGEL IS AND THEIR DUTIES
*We are looking at two sets of verses today, they go together, Hebrews 1:13-14, and Psalm 103:20-21. They tell us about the angels, what they do, and who they listen to. The angels are ministering spirits, sent by God to minister to people who will inherit salvation. They worship the one and only God, doing His will. They are Gods servants, just like we are supposed to be. They are here to minister to us, believers of Christ!
It is very important to remember that the angels also worship God, and do His will. In Revelations John kneeled down to worship an angel several times. The angels always said not to worship them because they are both servants of the same God. Hebrews 1:14 tells us they minister to those who will inherit salvation. Does this mean that that don’t minister to the unsaved? I can’t answer that question, but I do know that they do whatever God tells them to do. God works in the lives of the unsaved so that they will inherit salvation. But, God doesn’t only use angels, He uses us too. We need to obedient servants of the Most High God, letting Him use us too, then glorifying God for that.
We hope you search our website, Christian Fellowshipping, for more encouraging ways to fellowship with God and other believes. To learn about salvation and what it means read What is Salvation and God’s Promise of Salvation, it will guide you through this with scripture.
