This bible study is based off of how the NKJV reads.
Any scripture quoted in this study is taken from the NKJV bible.

PRAYING FROM MATTHEW 7:7-11

Today I will show you how I pray using scripture. We are going to pray using Matthew 7:7-11 as our guide, it’s main focus is ask, seek, knock. Because this scripture passage has a lot of information to pray from we are going to break it down into two sections, then combine them into one prayer.

MATTHEW 7:7-11

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

STEP 1

In order to start praying from the verses, we need to section off key phrases or topics. When doing this, I highlight similar topics or phrases the same way. Doing this will help when it comes time to pray.

Matthew 7:7-8

7Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Matthew 7:9-11

9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him

STEP 2

Now that we have our key phrases or topics, we can begin our prayer. Prayer is when we are communicating with God, telling Him how we are feeling, our desires, our needs, and what is weighing down our spirit in the moment. Be honest with God because He already knows what you’re thinking and what you are going through.

Read the verses one more time before you begin your prayer.
Next, start your prayer with the main topic of the selected verses.
Then, pray from each of the highlighted text, turning the text to a personal conversation with God.

Matthew 7:7-8

Read: Matthew 7:7-8
Main Topic: Ask, Seek, Knock.
Pray from the highlighted text, making it personal to you.

Heavenly Father,
Your word says that we should ask, seek and knock.
Help me to ask You, because You want to freely give and You want me to receive it.
Help me to seek after I ask, so I can find the answers that You want to provide to me.
Lastly, help me to knock after I have asked and sought You and Your answers, so I can receive and accept what You have given to me.

Matthew 7:9-11

Read: Matthew 7:9-11
Main Topic: Good Gifts even though I am evil in nature, unlike God.
Pray from the highlighted text, making it personal to you.

Thank you Heavenly Father that even though I have an evil nature,
I try to give good gifts to those who ask of me.
Help me to remember that You God, the One who has NO EVIL in Him, who is our Father in Heaven, will give good things to me if I ask.

FINAL PRAYER! ASK. SEEK. KNOCK.

Now that you have written out a prayer for both parts of the selected scripture passage, put it together to make one prayer. In the process of mashing the prayers together, you can add more to to your prayer. It’s your conversation with God, personalize it to make it yours!

Heavenly Father,
Your word says that we should ask, seek and knock.
Help me to ask You, because You want to give and You want me to receive it.
Help me to seek after I ask, so I can find the answers that You want to provide to me.
Lastly, help me to knock after I have asked and sought You and Your answers, so I can receive and accept what You have given to me. Thank you Heavenly Father that even though I have an evil nature, I try to give good gifts to those who ask of me.
Help me to remember that You God, the One who has NO EVIL in Him, who is our Father in Heaven, will give good things to me if I ask. You are a God who is pure, good, with no evil present. Your answers are beyond our comprehension. Thank you, God, for reminding me that I need to ask You, seek Your answer, and knock to receive and accept it. This is Your will for me! In Jesus name I pray.
