*Every Monday for 8 weeks, I will post an attitudes that God will bless us for having. I will do this until we cover all 8 attitudes (Links below)*
ATTITUDE AND BLESSING
Attitude: A POOR SPIRIT
Blessing: God is giving you the Kingdom of Heaven
Scripture: Matthew 5:3, Luke 6:20
MEANING AND APPLICATION
Life Experience:
EXAMPLE 1: When you are poor in spirit you realize you can not live this life on your own, let alone make it to heaven. God loves the poor in spirit, because they turn to Him for dependence! And in turn, God gives them the kingdom of Heaven, through salvation.
EXAMPLE 2: The things of life can give us a poor spirit, life gets us down sometimes. Some examples are finances, family problems, health problems, and everyday concerns and needs to name a few. When we admit we are poor in spirit in any area of life that brings us down, we are admitting we can not do it on our own. This is when God wants us to depend on Him. He has given us the kingdom of heaven, which will not have any problems that will bring our spirit down!
SCRIPTURE READING:
Matthew 5:1-12
And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Luke 6:20-23
Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said:
“Blessed are you poor,
For yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now,
For you shall be filled.
Blessed are you who weep now,
For you shall laugh.
Blessed are you when men hate you,
And when they exclude you,
And revile you, and cast out your name as evil,
For the Son of Man’s sake.
Rejoice in that day and leap for joy!
For indeed your reward is great in heaven,
For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.
