FAITH

Do you know what faith means? We are going to use the bible to figure it out.
Begin in prayer.

1) What do you think faith means?
(There are no wrong answers, this is just their opinions and thoughts.)

2) The bible has a definition of faith, and it is in Hebrews 11:1. It can be a little confusing to understand! I am going to read it to you, and think about what it means. 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 KNJV
(Encourage them to think about this verse, reading out loud to them a few times.)

3) Faith is knowing (confidence) that everything we hoped for comes from God, whom we can not see.
(Let the kids think about what that means.)

4) Confidence in what we hope for…Can we be confident that God is going to give us something that we hope for? Do you have any examples of things we can be confident that God is going to give us?
(We can be confident that God will hear our prayers, He will answer our prayers, SALVATION, a
trip to Heaven one day, protection, understanding what the bible says. Encourage the kids to come
up with more answers.)

5) Evidence of things we do not see… Can we know for sure that the things we can’t see with our eyes are really true? Here is an example: we can’t see the wind with our eyes so how do we know it’s really exist?
(Let them answer the wind question, you can feel it, sometimes hear it blowing the branches or
windchimes, etc.)

6) Should we have complete confidence in the things of God, that we cannot see with our eyes?
(Let the kids answer… some might be the same as question 4)

7) Can you think of anyone in bible history that had faith in God?
(Give the kids a chance to answer before giving the examples)

  • God asked him to sacrifice his son that God would bring him back to life.
(Abraham when he was getting ready to sacrifice Isaac)
  • She hid her son in a basket and sent him down the river because she knew he was very special,
even though she could have been killed for doing that
    .
(Moses parents hid him from the king (Pharaoh) because the babies were ordered to be killed)
  • They walked around a wall one time for seven days and on the seventh day they blew horns and it fell?
    (The walls of Jericho!)

We need to have faith! We need to be confident in God, and that He will give us everything that He promises us, even though we can see God or those promises with our eyes right now!
